On 25.10.91 Ramon and his team went to Paris – along with
100 fans from Holland. The fans had more tension than Ramon. Everybody knew
Cezar had trained like a
madman before this rematch fight. And again, it was his hometown – Paris,
France – where the fight took place. The victory in the first fight gave
Ramon an extra impulse for his destructive performance. Many thought that
Cezar had come into this fight too soon. But Dekkers was coming in with only
one intention and that was to end this fight even quicker than the first
fight.
Cezar was under immense pressure in his hometown to win
this fight which explains the short layoff. But it was Dekkers who knew he
‘had his number.’ Cezar was very tough in this rematch and at first it
seemed to be a close fight. You could see that Cezar had been training,
especially in the clinch, trying to get the better of Ramon Dekkers. The
referee, was the famous Krongsak who is a very famous fighter himself. The
fight was again in Paris and Cezar hung tough and was determined to take
this into a late round to try to get Dekkers tired. Cezar was doing good but
only being lured closer to his doom as Dekkers initiated his punching and
kicking assault in the third round. Ramon knocked him out in that same
round. He got two or three 8 counts in that fight. It was bad for the French
audience to see their favorite fighter getting destroyed for the 2nd time
within a short period of time. Cezar took a lot of punishment in that fight
and got knocked out badly. Conventional wisdom was that the Frenchman had
chosen to come back much too soon. At that particular moment, Dekkers
probably couldn’t have been beaten by any man alive in his weight division.
Rumor has it that this fight actually ended Cezar’s career.
