Ramon fought Coban Lookchaomaesithong 4 times: two wins and
two losses and they were all very tough fights. Coban was the toughest
fighter Ramon ever fought because he has the same dangerous power in his
fists as Ramon does. He also can take a lot of punches and punishment before
his opponent has a chance to knock him out. He has earned the nickname of
"Buffalo Head" due to this attribute. At his peak, Coban was one awesome
fighter! Today, he is an instructor (i.e., Adjarn or Kru) in the United
States. Coban also admits some of his toughest fights were those he fought
against Ramon Dekkers. The Coban vs. Dekkers fights have been rated as being
the best by any standards by Muay Thai aficionados. Ramon believes that the
fight against Coban when he knocked him out in the first round in Bangkok,
Thailand was the best in his career .
In 1991, the two fighters collided for the first time in France. In Paris,
Ramon just wasn’t himself. He had a lot of personal problems and had not
been able to train for at least 3 weeks before the fight. Coban quickly
pounced on Dekkers, scoring a knockout within the first minute of the first
round. Coban did not know at the time that the same would happen to him
soon. |
