| Ramon kept on winning and winning on KO and then his first
fight in France was when he challenged the World Champion Muay Thai. This
was his first World Title fight and was the most important championship for
him. It was in France against a Thai. His name was Mungkordum Sitchang, and
it was for the World Title in 59 kg (IMTA), on 2-12-1989 in Salle Lionel
Terray in France. Ramon won on points. It was a very tough fight. He was
then 20 years old and he became the World Muay Thai Champion against a good
guy from Thailand who was supposed to be in the top ten ranking. But the
title was for the World Muay Thai Council. Even though it was an official
title, it wasn’t recognized in Thailand because they had the “International
Muay Thai Federation (IMTF)” – the official Thai title in Muay Thai. The
Thais said that a true Muay Thai champion really had to be the champion of
IMTF for Thailand to respect it. Anyway Ramon was proud enough that in such
a short period, he was the world champion in his federation. Soon he would
also prove to IMTF that he was a true champion. |
