The most influential person in Ramon’s life is his trainer
Cor Hemmers! He is a very good trainer, and an excellent role model. He is
also Ramon’s stepfather.
Cor Hemmers stopped his fighting career as an A-class Thai boxing fighter –
Muay Thai fighter – and started a small gym in Breda/Holland. They always
ask Hemmers in interviews, “You trained Ramon Dekkers but who is your
trainer?” He actually doesn’t have a Muay Thai trainer. He worked out this
system together with Ramon and must have been successful because they were
able to beat other champions.
According to Cor the mistake of the Muay Thai trainers at that time
was that they thought that only their system was the best. They didn’t
even consider other people, because their fighters always won. But
Hemmers, on the other hand, was thinking he could learn something from
other fighting styles. He has experienced boxing, karate, Thai boxing
etc. And from all the different martial arts disciplines, Hemmers took
his techniques and thus has created his own system. And it works because
outside of Ramon, Cor had 13 more world champions in Muay Thai. Cor
Hemmers was also trainer of former UFC heavyweight champion and King of
Pancrase,
Bas
Rutten, and some of the top mixed martial artists in the world in
Golden Glory team including Heath Herring. But, Ramon is one of the
biggest stars of Hemmers’ achievement and also of his career.
